Information about Calves Reduction

Leg in general, and calves in particular, are one of the most exposed parts of the body. It is not strange, therefore, that behind the torso, it is indicated as the part of the body that generates most insecurity in many women, even above chest, buttocks or arms.

When the definition of muscles is too aggressive or the total volume is too large, the aesthetic set presents deficiencies of softness in the lines, so linked to femininity.

Calf reduction treatments address this situation, improving the aesthetic appearance and helping women gain in confidence and self-esteem.

Any intervention in this area of the body will be very visible. Therefore, it is our advice that the patient carefully choose the hands of the team they will trust.

The following procedures should not be performed by any surgeon, but only those who have completed heir training in Reconstructive Plastic Surgery.

The results are very natural improving the patient’s self-esteem.

Reduction of calves with Botox

Botulinum toxin, better known as Botox(R), is a noninvasive treatment for calf reduction.

Infiltrated directly on the musculature, this toxin decreases muscle contraction activity. In this way, we help to fine-tune and reduce the volume of the muscles. So to speak, we “deactivate” the muscles that we want to attenuate, almost always the calves, achieving the goal of remodeling the contour of the leg.

The results of this treatment are temporary, and should be repeated approximately every 3-6 months. This situation gives us an added advantage for the patient, which is the possibility of “visualizing” the result of a calf reduction before considering permanent treatment in the future.

The application of Botox hardly causes discomfort and is a fast, effective and scarless treatment, which is performed in an hour. It does not restrict the movement of the calf so it does not require functional sick leave.

Reduction of calves with radiofrequency

Radiofrequency allows us to precisely and selectively reduce part of the calves, modeling the calf but maintaining the function of the musculature (both calves and soleus).

The procedure involves locating the motor nerves of the calf musculature and decreasing the nerve impulse that reaches the fibers. In this way, selective atrophy is caused, resulting in a progressive decrease in volume.

The procedure is minimally invasive, as it is only necessary to make a mini-incision at the back of the knee in order to locate the motor nerves. Muscle fibers remain intact after treatment.

The treatment is performed under sedation to ensure the patient’s immobility, as it is a technique that requires maximum precision. Recovery is minimal and very fast.

Reduction of calves with neurectomy

Selective neurectomy is based on a similar principle to the previous one: avoid muscle contraction to generate selective atrophy, resulting in a loss of volume in the calf, more softness in the lines and selective thinning of the muscles. In this case, however, the nerves are acted on by surgical intervention.

With this procedure we can model both the soleus and the muscles of each calf. Is acts only on specific muscle areas, so muscle function remains unchanged.

The intervention is done under sedation and without the need of hospital admission. The incision for surgery is minimal. The tuning of the musculature occurs progressively.

Reduction and surgical remodeling of the calves

The muscle remodeling of the calf with surgery is the option to treat muscles that have hypertrophied or do not correspond to the rest of the leg. It is done by selectively removing musculature on overly bulky legs.

This intervention allows to reduce up to 7 cm in diameter on each calf and its results are highly predictable, obtained immediately and are definitive.

It is a completely proven and safe process. The intervention is performed by means of endoscopy from an incision of 2 cm (although in some cases may be a little longer) at the height of the calf crease, at the back of the knee, which favors the scar being imperceptible.

The operation lasts between 2 and 3 hours. It is performed under complete but gentle anesthesia by a team of anaesthetists specially trained for this intervention, since it is necessary that the musculature is very relaxed so that the doctor can model it. In general, the patient must stay one night of hospital admission.

Reduction of calves with liposuction

The vast majority of bulky calf cases we address are due to excess of musculature. However, in 5% of the time, the problem is caused by an excess of adipose tissue. In addition, in 25% of cases, it may be due to a mixed factor (excess muscle and fat). I both situations, liposuction can be the treatment (exclusively or in combination with another technique) that allows us to achieve a refinement of the calves. que nos permita conseguir un afinamiento de las pantorrillas. Especially when the excess volume is in the area of the Achilles tendon or in the ankles.

Liposuction is a definitive procedure that allows us to eliminate fat deposits. To perform liposuction in the area of the calves it is necessary to use specific techniques and cannulas, and that is why it is so important to rely on a specialized unit in this type of intervention.

The incisions of this liposuction are only 4 mm, so the scars will be minimal and completely imperceptible. Depending on the type of calf, the intervention may be performed under local or complete anesthesia.

The result of the intervention is permanent, recovery is fast and the function of the leg is not limited, so it does not require a prolonged medical discharge.

The fat extracted from the area can be grafted into the patient itself, if necessary (more information about Lipofilling).
